Hello and Happy New Year from MySelf Builder. The beginning of a new year marks a time when people set goals and discuss adopting healthy habits. Some choose not to make resolutions at all or may face challenges that cause them to stop focusing on their goals.
Instead of making a list of commitments or promises, MySelf Builder recommends developing an image of something you'd like to achieve this year.
Imagine having a picture taken after you've won a championship game if you're a student-athlete, or after you've received your diploma, started your dream job or opened a new business. Whatever goal you have, think about what a photo taken during that moment would look like.
With that picture in mind, consider what it would take to make that moment happen. Who else is in your photo? Where is it taking place? What support do you need to make it to that moment?
Having a goal, visual, or mental picture can influence the course of your destiny. Throughout the year, try to piece moments and experiences together to help make that image a reality. Remember that it’s a process. Finally, crop and remove unnecessary items that can disrupt your image. That means stay away from negativity and thoughts, behaviors, or attitudes that can interfere with your goal.
The images in the background are examples of experiences where I had a vision of moment before it happened: going to and graduating from college and moving to Washington DC in front of the US Capitol. Both experiences took faith, determination, and support to become true. Where would I be without those opportunities and the faith and those who helped make those moments happen? Surround yourself with people who can help you build your dreams.
A photo can act as a snapshot of a moment in time. Before smartphones and digital cameras, photos were taken with instant, disposable, or other cameras that required buying film, which had to be developed to produce physical copies (which could take hours or days). Like old cameras, sometimes we have to take time to wait and develop before we see the results. Like new cameras, we have the ability to instantly make edits, corrections and remove unnecessary items that can disrupt our image or goals.
If we can commit to taking steps to build our dream image, then this year will be filled with successful moments, positive outcomes, and opportunities to become the best version of ourselves.
Keep Building!
